Building a just society where women, girls, and gender non-conforming individuals are safe, valued, and equal in all things and all places

through direct action, education, and coalition building in Northwest Indiana

NOW recognizes these six core issues as so inseparably intertwined and interwoven into our society that we cannot silo them. We must address them all equally and together.

Reproductive Justice

The four core values of reproductive justice are the right to have full autonomy over our bodies; the right to have a child, the right to not have a child, and the right to parent a child or children in safe and healthy environments.

NWI NOW organizes through our CommUnity for Repro Justice.

LGBTQIA Equality

Discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender expression deserves no place in our society, but it does exist in all areas, including education, employment, housing, public accommodations, health services, child custody, and military policies.

NWI NOW organizes through our own Rainbow NOW group .

Economic Justice

Economic justice is about designing economic and political systems to include the greatest number of people, distributing benefits and costs equitably, and holding institutions accountable for the economic outcomes they generate.

In real life terms, that includes pay equity, welfare reform, financial literacy, paid sick leave, and ending injustices like job discrimination and sexual harassment,.

Constitutional Equality

NOW is a proud supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment and prioritizes Constitutional equality in our work.

Laws to protect womxn from discrimination are unenforced or lack any enforcement mechanisms. We must enshrine equal protections under the Constitution itself.

Racial Justice

Racial justice involves overcoming institutional, cultural, and individual racism, and recognizing the impact of race and racism on American culture, while also envisioning a future without racism.

NWI NOW is committed to working openly and assertively to eliminate “white feminism.”

Gender-Based Violence

To end gender based violence, we must overcome the deeply entrenched structural systems that perpetuate this hidden epidemic.

NOW emphasizes the interrelated factors, including domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, violence against abortion clinics, and hate crimes across gender, sexuality, race, and ability.
